Double the Comfort

Dubai, a dynamic Emirate known for its ambitious development projects, has set its sights on transforming its airports to accommodate a substantial increase in passenger numbers. With plans to grow Dubai International Airport (DXB) from 66 million to 100 million visitors annually and position Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) as the world's leading hub by 2027, the challenge was to elevate the travel experience for passengers across both airports. Our task was to build a comprehensive app that would inform passengers about their flights and provide details about airport facilities.

Project Objectives:

• Create a user-friendly and informative app that enhances passenger travel comfort for both Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport.

• Develop comprehensive personas and gather customer insights to deliver a product tailored to their needs.

• Create seamless customer journeys for both iOS and Android platforms.

• Integrate third-party suppliers, including an interactive 3D map provider and visual designers, to deliver a cohesive and visually appealing app

Solving challenges

Embarking on this project, our team had valuable experience working with airports, having previously created and managed the Schiphol Airport app. However, the main difficulty in this assignment was combining information from two distinct airports into a single app.

To overcome this challenge, we did an extensive research, pushing the boundaries of creativity, and engaging in exhaustive A/B testing. Our mission was to craft a navigation that seamlessly presented the abundance of information while giving absolute clarity and user-friendliness.

With the initial issue resolved, we turned our attention to other essential functionalities, presenting fresh challenges, particularly the 3D map, an area in which we lacked prior experience.

Driven by the business requirement to provide users with comprehensive information and seamless guidance during their airport stay, we went ahead with an innovative solution. Our approach required incorporating an interactive 3D map and introducing the "journey genie" feature to cater to all user needs.

Through this integration, users could access personalized flight details, easing their travel and enhancing the overall airport experience. The interactive 3D airport maps offered a precise view of all available services, food and beverage options, and retail areas at both airports, while seamlessly guiding users along their routes.

Putting a lot of effort into creating detailed High fidelity wireframes that showed how the app would behave and look, and working closely with the visual design team, we made sure the app's appearance matched the overall user experience.

The 9 months project was exciting and full of creativity and innovation. Our hard work paid off, and we developed an app that smoothly guided passengers through their airport experience. It provided essential travel information and interactive features, making travel more comfortable and convenient at Dubai's airports.
